Consultation on the Neighbourhood Plan for Sandridge

Published: 27 July 2020

Residents, businesses and community groups are being consulted about a neighbourhood plan for the parish of Sandridge.

Neighbourhood Plans give local people the opportunity to have a greater say on the type and extent of developments they want for their community.

They provide guidance on what development is considered acceptable and can indicate locations for new homes, infrastructure, community facilities and business premises.

Such plans can also provide guidance on other issues including the protection of local heritage.

Sandridge Parish Council has drawn up a draft plan for its area that covers the years up to 2036.

This has been done with the agreement of St Albans City and District Council (SADC) which is the main planning authority.

SADC is now undertaking the final round of consultation before the plan is submitted to an independent planning inspector for examination.

Details of how to view the Sandridge Neighbourhood Plan and respond to the consultation, can be found on SADC’s website here from Monday 27 July: https://www.stalbans.gov.uk/neighbourhood-planning.

The consultation runs for eight weeks until Monday 21September.

All of the feedback will then be analysed to see if any changes should be made to the plan.

Cllr Jamie Day, SADC’s Portfolio Holder for Planning, said: “Neighbourhood Plans provide extra guidance on what kind of development is acceptable to communities at a local level.

“This guidance adds to our own Local Plan for the whole of the District but does not replace it.

“I urge anyone with an interest in the future development of Sandridge to take a look at the draft neighbourhood plan and to provide us with any comments they may have.”
